Childhood Household Engagement and Later Feelings of Being Overwhelmed

Diego Hernandez

Born and raised in New York City, Diego is a Mathematics major graduating in spring 2024. In this project, he looked into what relationships there might exist between how much a child engages in chores and later mental health outcomes.

Abstract: The literature regarding how childhood chores affect how the children in question grow and do in adulthood is few and far between. Additionally, while TV in youth has some correlation to worse physical outcomes, there is less on mental health outcomes. This project compared Tv watching and doing chores in adolescence to how often those people, now adults, feel overwhelmed.
